Fondly known to students as “Mrs. Dolores,” Dolores Burchfield joined Marian Middle School in 2021 during the height of the pandemic and quickly became a trusted, joyful presence in the school community. A first‑generation Mexican American, she grew up in a close‑knit Spanish‑speaking neighborhood where her father—who had only a second‑grade education—built a legacy by opening El Rio Grande, the first Mexican restaurant on Cherokee Street. His dedication and resilience continue to inspire her work every day.
A graduate of Roosevelt High School, Dolores has been married for 32 years and is the proud mother of three sons and grandmother of two. Deeply family-oriented and rooted in her heritage, she loves how Marian embraces Hispanic culture and encourages students to honor their traditions and pass them on to the next generation.
Dolores takes great pride in every task she undertakes. Students frequently volunteer to assist her, giving her daily opportunities to get to know them, encourage them, and remind them that they are valued and deeply loved. She considers her role not just a job, but a calling to serve—supporting students, colleagues, and families with warmth, compassion, and unwavering faith.
